Agnivesha (अग्निवेश) was the foremost disciple of the sage Atreya — and the physician who first wrote medicine down. His treatise, the Agnivesha Tantra, became the Charaka Samhita, the foundation of Ayurveda. Medicine's oldest surviving record begins with his name.
